Bovingdon Bowls Club

As the summer season draws to a close, we look forward to both the Sunday and Thursday Winter Leagues that are hosted at Bovingdon Bowls Club. There are 8 teams competing on Thursdays throughout the autumn and winter months.

This is the 4th season that we have hosted the Thursday Winter League, and it is great to see Welwyn, Potten End, 3 Amigos, Mix ‘n’ Match, Radlett, Croxley Green, Bovingdon A & B teams all looking to compete during 2025-26 to become League Winners or perhaps pick up the Knockout Cup or Spanish Jack Trophy.

Tea and Biscuits on arrival and a chance to catch up with friends from the other clubs. With matches starting at 10:30am, players look forward to a welcome break after 8 ends, and a chance to warm up and savour a bowl of piping hot soup and a roll, before it’s back out again, to brave the elements, competing for that important win. Welcome to the Thursday Winter League!

Thursday Winter League Previous History
Season 1 - October 2022 through to March 2023:
In the inaugural season Welwyn & District won 11 matches out of 14 to become League champions, with the runners up spot taken by 3 Amigos (Hemel Hempstead). Kitcheners won the Knockout cup competition. The season ended with Welwyn also winning the Spanish Jack Trophy.

Season 2 - October 2023 through to March 2024:
Mix ‘n’ Match (formally known as Kitcheners) won an incredible 13 out of 14 matches to lift the League winner’s title. A second place for Welwyn who also won the Knockout Cup competition, with Radlett winning the Spanish Jack trophy.

Season 3 - October 2024 through to March 2025:
It was a League and Knockout Cup double for Welwyn & District picking up their second title in three years, 4 points ahead of Potten End who notably have not been out of the top 3 in each of the previous three seasons. The Spanish Jack was won by Bovingdon A.

Season 4 - October 2025 through to March 2026 … who will win?
